Internship Announcement
SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL ASIAN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL

POSITION: Internship (unpaid, college credit may be available)
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Oct-May, 2009/2010 (longer-term positions available)
COMMITMENT: Minimum 10-15 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Center for Asian American Media seeks skilled, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to assist with the planning and production of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival (SFIAAFF), which takes place March 11-21, 2010. The internship consists of project-oriented tasks such as film research, database management, event planning, marketing, outreach, and archival work. These are part-time and unpaid positions (college credit may be available). Scheduling is flexible. The internship is best suited for a person willing to share and gain skills in the arenas of film programming, event planning, data management, and non-profit arts administration, with a sincere interest in Asian American and Asian media arts.

PROJECTS Internship projects include but are not limited to: • Processing film submissions • Assisting Festival's screening committees • Focused film research to develop retrospective and specialized programming • Maintaining Festival archives and databases • Developing articles and blogs for Festival website • Assisting with community outreach, marketing and guest relations

Internships offer excellent opportunities to experience and participate in an exciting film and cultural event. Interns will get hands-on experience with festival planning and implementation, as well as gain exposure to the Asian American arts community.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Detail-oriented and team player
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and research skills
• Familiarity with Mac-based programs including Filemaker Pro, Excel, and Word
• Experience with graphic/design software including: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
• Web/Internet savvy: advance searching, social networking applications
• Works well independently in a small office environment as well as in public arenas
• Desire to learn about media arts organizing
• Knowledge or interest in Asian American independent media preferred

The SFIAAFF is the nation's largest showcase for new Asian American and Asian films, annually presenting 130 works in San Francisco, Berkeley and San Jose. Since 1982, the SFIAAFF has been an important launching point for Asian American independent filmmakers as well as a vital source for new Asian cinema.
