The hard-working folks over at the National Asian American Telecommunications Association have completely redesigned their website, making it eminently slicker, easier to navigate, and more attractive than before. AsianAmericanFilm talked via email with NAATA's Marie Lee about the new site.

AAF   What was your role in the redesign (do you have an official title?)?

ML   Currently, I am transitioning into Web and Marketing Coordinator. For the redesign, I worked with the designers to achieve a more navigatable and interactive site, as well as gather content, photos, etcetera.

What's on APA TV
AAF   Tell us a few of the new features of the site.

ML   The site is still in the evolution stage- we have plans to do so much more in the near future. So stop by again soon! We are trying to create a sense of community with all of different audiences (i.e., filmmakers, families, educators, film lovers, and the everyday television viewer). Coming in May we will have message boards.
On the homepage, we have a poll on the latest Asian film along with a film review (or two) along with a place to sign up to be on our mailing list.
On the Family Fun page, we have kidspots (those little infomercials for children, like School House Rocks) which can be downloaded with Quicktime. Also on that page we will have suggested reading list.
We also a Featured Filmmaker of the Month in the Filmmakers Corner, which will have resource links and tips.
The "What's on APA TV" section currently lists the shows that we present on PBS.

AAF   How did you all come up with the plan for the redesign?

ML   We wanted a site that people would want to come back to in order find out more about the latest Asian American films, what we are presenting on tv, what we are offering on video and funding opportunities.

AAF   Who did the actual design for you?

ML   A Media, who just launched the Alpha version of Aonline.com. They are also the publishers of "A. Magazine: Inside Asian America."

AAF   What kinds of things should we look for in the future?

ML   MESSAGE BOARDS! More interviews and reviews.

AAF   Anything else you'd like to add?

ML   Tell us what you think of our new site. What else would you like to see?

To tell Marie what you'd like to see on the NAATA website, you can contact her at marie@naatanet.org
