Provocative opinions about Asian American film

Hollywood Reporter likes "Harold and Kumar"

Check it out. Here's an excerpt:

... it's Indian-American Penn, who is a welcome burst of comic energy, and Korean-American Cho, as his hapless foil, who keep the proceedings anchored in a real-world reality too-seldom represented in contemporary comedies. It's nice to see characters who are usually relegated to stock, stereotypical supporting roles finally allowed to carry the entire picture.
I'm getting excited -- this movie has a real shot at making genuine stars out of Penn and Cho, which would be huge. Can anyone recall an Asian American male star in our lifetime who became a bonafide star without being relegated to martial arts or action flicks? The closest I can come up with off the top of my head is John Lone, who hasn't headlined an American movie since "M. Butterfly."

What about Johnny Yun in "Fistful of Chopsticks!?" We gotta remember our roots. ; )
