This amazing little film from the Philippines has warmed the hearts of audiences and judges at every festival it has played and has walked away with numerous awards.

THE BLOSSOMING OF MAXIMO OLIVEROS from director AUREAUS SOLITO will make its US theatrical premiere this weekend in NEW YORK at the CINEMA VILLAGE.

The film and director embody the new asthetic for Philippine cinema encompassing great performances with great stories about real people. Moving away from normally cliched melodrama, THE BLOSSOMING OF MAXIMO OLIVEROS tells the story of gay 12 year old Maximo who lives with his father and two brothers (who are involved in local crime) in one of Manila's slums and falls in love with a local handsome policeman. Who will young Maximo choose - love or his family? The film is tender and handles the subject of pre-teen gay identity brilliantly without making it an issue. If anything, the film is truly about family.
