For those of you who are first timers here, the mission of this email newsletter blast to keep everyone aware of Asian American and Asian international films that will be coming out so that we can go out and support them.
First weekend box office receipts are very important to Hollywood and to our films because these reports will make or break a film. If the films does well on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the "first" weekend it comes out, theater owners and distributors will make their decisions on Monday mornings about a film's life.
So, we encourage each and every one of you to go out there and support our Asian American and Asian international filmmakers. It is at the box office where we can show our strength and our power for our films and and filmmakers. Even if you don't have the time to sit through the film on the first weekend - go to the theater and purchase a ticket so that we can show box office $$$ numbers. It is extremely important. At the end of the day.. the color in Hollywood is GREEN! Show up and vote for yourself at the box office!

3. A MIGHTY HEART with Angelina Jolie, Irrfan Khan and Archie Panjabi opens today everywhere
A MIGHTY HEART Starring Angelina Jolie, Irrfan Khan, Archie Panjabi, and Adnan Siddiqu - Opens Nationwide on June 22
On January 23, 2002, Mariane Pearl’s world changed forever. Her husband Daniel, the South Asia Bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal, was researching a story on shoe bomber Richard Reid. The story drew them to Karachi where a go-between had promised access to an elusive source. As Danny left for the meeting, he told Mariane he might be late for dinner. He never returned. In the face of death, Danny’s spirit of defiance and his unflinching belief in the power of journalism led Mariane to write about his disappearance, the intense effort to find him and his eventual murderer in her memoir A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl. Six months pregnant when the ordeal began, she was carrying a son that Danny hoped to name Adam. She wrote the book to introduce Adam to the father he would never meet. Transcending religion, race and nationality, Mariane’s courageous desire to rise above the bitterness and hatred that continues to plague this post 9/11 world, serves as the purest expression of the joy of life she and Danny shared.
Starring Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie (GIRL, INTERRUPTED) as Mariane Pearl, and Dan Futterman, Oscar®-nominated for his CAPOTE screenplay, as Daniel Pearl, A MIGHTY HEART is directed by Michael Winterbottom (THE ROAD TO GUANTANAMO, TRISTRAM SHANDY) and produced by Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner for Plan B Entertainment (YEAR OF THE DOG, THE DEPARTED) and Andrew Eaton for Revolution Films (THE ROAD TO GUANTANAMO).
In addition to Jolie and Futterman, A MIGHTY HEART stars Irrfan Khan (THE NAMESAKE), Tony Award winner Denis O’Hare (“Take Me Out”), Archie Panjabi (BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM), Will Patton (REMEMBER THE TITANS), Pakistani television star Adnan Siddiqui (AMER BAIL), and Obie Award winner Gary Wilmes (“Red Light Winter”).
“In his work, Danny struggled to keep free of dogma and alliance. He didn’t represent a country or a flag, just the pursuit of truth. He was there to hold up a mirror and force people to look at themselves. What better way is there to respect humanity?” – Mariane Pearl
A MIGHTY HEART opens in theaters across North America on June 22. For additional information on this film and to watch the trailer, visit:
