Set at the edge of Ground Zero, the devastated 9/11 site in New York, a troubled romance unfolds as Bauhinia, a young expatriate woman from Hong Kong tries to salvage her rocky relationship with a yuppie mommy's boy. Her plight is further compounded by terrorist threats to her adopted city and by an unplanned pregnancy. In a gripping story that ends with a subdued note of hope, Evans Chan tackles themes of alienation, cultural conflicts and the politics of birth control in his signature style. "Bauhinia," Chan's most recent DV venture, was commissioned by Radio Television Hong Kong for Video Life, a drama series. |
