Yook Wong, the filmmaker's father, joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army in the 1950s in hopes of changing his impoverished homeland. A decade later, a man named Alex Hing started a San Francisco group called the Red Guard to fight racial inequality through Maoist teachings. But for both of the idealistic young men, their revolutions did not turn out the way they expected. |
