10.12.02 -- The results of the Speed Racer Asian American Film HaikuFu! competition are in! Below is the inspirational picture and demo haiku for the contest.
And the winners are...
All these years we watched...
How is it we never knew
You were Japanese?
First Place
Who says Asian men
cannot drive?! Turn here, turn there,
Again, whites have lied!
Thanks to all who entered and gave their two bits about our favorite toon racer. Ah, memories...
A strong field, with a multitude of quality entries. First Place goes to Grace Toy for her "Who says Asian men/cannot drive" haiku. Mostly because it made me laugh out loud when I first read it.
Runner up to Mindy Varner for her "Though I'm Japanese" verse. Again, I laughed. And the phrase "anime faux-pas" is fun to say.
Honorable Mention to Lang's sophomoric and incomplete but nevertheless funny poem: "Whoa... Trixie!/That's not the gear shift."
Grace's cheap but thrilling prize is a DVD of the Jet Li Hong Kong cinema masterpiece "Kung Fu Cult Master," or, according to this box, "Kung Fu Colt Master." And since this DVD didn't work in my DVD player at home and may not work in Grace's either, we're also tossing in a CD of the soundtrack of John Woo's WWII action flick "Windtalkers." What fun!
